Somatics & Breathwork class with Joy

Interview with Joy about her Somatics & Breathwork class in The Hague.

This restorative class is designed to regulate the nervous system and guide the body into rest and recovery, offering a gentle counterbalance to our often busy, “always on” lifestyles.

  1. Can you tell us a little about Somatics & Breathwork and what makes it unique compared to other classes?

This class is focused on regulating the nervous system and bringing the body into a state of rest and recovery. In daily life, many of us are often “on” active, alert, and pushing forward. This class is the opposite of that.

2. How does this class help participants tune into their bodies and become more aware of tension or movement patterns?

Through simple, slow, and often repetitive movements, you begin to enter a deeply meditative and focused state. From there, it becomes much easier to feel what’s actually happening inside your body. You start recognizing patterns  where you hold tension, how you move, where you might be overdoing or disconnecting. And from that awareness, there’s space to soften, shift, or change those patterns. It also helps you connect to your boundaries sensing what feels right for you so you can take better care of yourself both in and outside the class.

3. How does the combination of gentle movement and guided breathwork support nervous system regulation and overall calmness?

The gentle movements help release stored tension in the body, while the breath acts as a bridge to the nervous system.

4. Who do you think this class is best suited for, and why?

Honestly everyone!! But especially for people who are used to always doing more, going faster, and pushing themselves. And interestingly… also for the people who feel like they don’t need this. Often, those are the ones who are most disconnected from their body or constantly operating in “doing mode.” This class gently invites you back into feeling, into slowing down, into listening. It’s also very supportive for people experiencing stress, burnout, or physical tension and discomfort. This class offers a space to slow down, reconnect, and restore something many of us don’t get enough of.
