Here, we explore the first three chakras, the foundation of the entire system.
-
Root Chakra: Muladhara
Location: base of the spine
Element: Earth
Color: Red
Muladhara is your foundation. The chakra connected to safety, stability, and the feeling of belonging. When this chakra is balanced, you feel calm, trusting, and connected to your body. When it’s out of balance, you may experience stress, anxiety, restlessness, or a lack of direction.
Yoga for the Root Chakra: Grounding poses that anchor your feet to the earth.
Try: Mountain pose, Warrior I, Garland pose
Mantra: LAM
-
Sacral Chakra: Svadhisthana
Location: lower belly
Element: Water
Color: Orange
This chakra represents creativity, sensuality, and emotional fluidity. It helps you experience pleasure, feel expressive, and move freely, both literally and figuratively. When this chakra is out of balance, emotions may stagnate or feel overwhelming. Inspiration, flow, and playfulness can feel far away.
Yoga for the Sacral Chakra: Gentle hip openers and fluid movement.
Try: Butterfly pose, Pigeon pose, Cat-Cow Flow
Mantra: VAM
-
Solar Plexus Chakra: Manipura
Location: upper abdomen
Element: Fire
Color: Yellow
Manipura is your inner fire. The center of willpower, personal strength, and confidence. When balanced, you feel energized, decisive, and in control of your choices. A weakened or overactive Solar Plexus Chakra may lead to fear of failure, perfectionism, fatigue, or anger.
Yoga for the Solar Plexus Chakra: Active poses that build heat and strengthen the core.
Try: Boat pose, Plank, Chair pose
Mantra: RAM
Opening the chakras: a blend of body, breath, and awareness
Bringing these energy centers into balance doesn’t require complicated rituals. Simple tools like yoga, mudras, breathwork, and short moments of meditation are enough to create more harmony and clarity. By regularly working with the first three chakras, you build a solid foundation for opening the higher energy centers.
