introduction to sankalpa

You know about New Years resolutions/intentions and setting goals. Those intentions usually start with ‘I will’.
We summon our willpower and promise to change not just what we do but who we are. We set goals and imagine how happy we will be when we get what we want.
Most New Year’s resolutions come from the misguided desires of the ego, senses, and conditioning. They almost always fail because they start from the assumption that who you are is not good enough, and reinforce the belief that your happiness depends on acquiring what you want.
Yoga offers a refreshing alternative to the New Year’s resolution: the practice of Sankalpa.

A Sankalpa practice starts from the assumption that you already are who you need to be to fulfill your life’s dharma (purpose of life). All you need to do is focus your mind, connect to your most heartfelt desires, and channel the divine energy within.
Kalpa means vow, or the rule to be followed above all other rules.
San refers to a connection with the highest truth.
Sankalpa is a vow and commitment we make to support our highest truth. A Sankalpa honors the deeper meaning of our life.

Discovering your Sankalpa is a process of listening. Your heartfelt desire is already present, waiting to be seen, heard, and felt. It’s not something you need to make up, and the mind doesn’t have to go searching for it.
The first step in discovering your Sankalpa is to listen. The willingness to hear the message of the heartfelt desire. It can take courage to listen to the heart, and a quiet, settled mind (one cultivated through meditation, yoga and pranayama) will best be able to hear this innermost call.
The second step, is to sit with it, feel it and reflect upon the message that arises.
The final step, is the willingness to do what the heartfelt desire requires of you. It will call you into action, into the world.
In this challenge, we invite you to go on a search and practice together.

terms & conditions
You can start your challenge between April1st and 15th 2023. From your first class, the 30 days start (so if you start April 1st, you’ll finish April 30th and if you start April 15th, you’ll end May 14th). The goal is to take at least 21 classes in 30 days. Remember, practice also means meditation and breath work, so be kind to yourself too and not take 30+ Power and Hot classes in a row ;). To track the amount of classes to take, you can get a Bingo card at the studio and put a stamp at your card after every class. Took an online class? Get your stamp when you get back in the studio.
Make sure to use your 20% before July 31, 2023. Send a photo of your stamp card to hallo@balanzs.nl. The discount code is for your personal use only and will only be given when at least 21 activities on the card are done. And yes, we will check if online classes are taken ;). During this Bingo we will send daily emails to keep you up to date & motivated. If you do not wish to receive emails, you can always unsubscribe.
